THE BEGINNING OF HOW IT ALL STARTED... AND THE END OF 2011

Here we are, the end of another year!  I decided it was time to sum a few things up, teach a few lessons and let you into my life and inspiration a little more.

So lets start at the beginning, meet my family this is where it all started.  Yes we are small there are only 4 of us, mom & dad, older brother and me. (yes i really am a blonde) I've always had a love for old pictures, i remember growing up and saving them in shoe boxes.  30 years later the walls in my house are kept warm by the these pictures and many more that are so full of life.  Maybe its my vivid imagination but to me they tell a story, and were the missing puzzle pieces to so much of my past.  I've been through alot with my family, more then most people would understand, half of the time i dont believe it myself.  After having to make the hardest decision of my life, i had to cut ties with my dad for personal reasons.  I had to do things i had no idea i was capable of doing. Its those kind of things you have no clue rather you can do them or not til your in the situation.  But its now that i realize why i saved all these pictures.  No matter what a person goes through in life you cant take away memories. I catch myself looking at these pictures and remembering the good times, the things that made me smile.  I remember waking up every weekend morning to my dad starting his bike, it dieing, starting again etc. etc. etc.... I wish i could be the age i am now, but go back to live life then. Back when everyone was happy, back when everyone was around, back to when love filled everyone's souls. But everything happens for a reason, and even though I dont believe anyone should have to go through the stuff I have, im realizing i was put on this earth to see the horrible side of things and make them beautiful enough to look at through art.  To take the topics people are to scared to look at, to afraid to know and make them dinner conversation to your white picket fence households.

When you live your life surrounded by this it becomes normal, nothing surprises you, you become very cold and absolutely fearless. But when i took all those feelings and emotions and put them into my art work (PEEP SHOW) i was able to create a world that was so full of love and passion, the success of my show proved to me that maybe i was on to something with this.  It made ME stop and listen to myself (which for an artist is the hardest thing to do since we are our own worst critics) I grew up hearing "dont judge a book by its cover" i don't think my mom or granny ever planned on that quote going so far in my life, but it seems more then appropriate to fuel my inspiration right now.

So here i am almost a year later, a few more tattoos, another notch on the lipstick case and ready to take on the world... Its been a brutal year, lots of loss, lots of change, lots of growing, lets call it super spring cleaning for life.  I truly believe things are now aligned for me to do what i've had my heart set on. A girl like me doesnt go through all this and not make some kind of noise out of it all.

I had been struggling with this blog and wanting to introduce my family for a few weeks, as most of you know im a VERY private person.  I sat at work a few weeks ago listening to a client complain 3 hours straight about their family and the holidays. Listen up kids, YOUR FAMILY IS YOUR FAMILY THESE ARE THE CARDS YOU WERE DEALT. If your not going to change it, dont complain about it because there are a million people out there who would do anything to be in your shoes. Be proud of who your family is good or bad, its what makes you YOU.  Its taken me almost 10 years to be able to say that, but i finally understand it and believe it. No family is perfect we all have up's and down's, but there is a difference between complaining because your bored and unhealthy situations. As the old saying goes don't compare apples to oranges.

So here is what i learned out of 2011... Pick and choose your battles, if your not gaining anything positive out of a person maybe its time to re-evaluate that relationship, its easier to fall then to stand, do not care about what others think do things for yourself, if you wouldnt let it happen to your best friend dont let it happen to you, and last but not least be happy with yourself and your world the rest will fall into place.

And on that note HAPPY NEW YEAR to my family, friends, and loved ones...

PEEP SHOW / ART SHOW / ART and LIFE

PEEP SHOW IS GOING TO AN ART SHOW!
Time to get your party shoes out kids, we have an art show to attend!
A very dear friend of mine and a huge huge inspiration to PEEP SHOW,
Mr. Simon Garcia is having a solo art exhibit next month.
Simon is actually the wonderful soul who named PEEP SHOW, after a long Starbucks session and one of the only people who has seen the original portfolio he came up with "live nude girl."  That was a little to in your face for me, and PEEP SHOW was born.  So now its time to give all that love back to his art world.

Aside from the eye candy of Simon's amazing art work, he is one of the very few artists i know who has actually set and achieved his goals.  That to another artist is huge inspiration. This art show is going to span 20 years of his life featuring drawings, paintings, photographs and collage.
His style is based off of urban life, street art, classical painting and abstract expressionism.
From the first time i saw his art work it always left me wanting more, that's the sign of what i call a GOOD no an AMAZING ARTIST.  Im very excited to see how Simon puts all this together, his attention to detail is nothing short of perfection so this show is guaranteed to impress!

Many of you know my obsession with books, wanting to make a book, reading books, anything related to books!  Well about a year ago Simon showed up to deliver his published art book "PRINCE CARABOO"
A journal of Glendon Bailey, that is accompanied by Simon's work.  He did a wonderful job putting the whole book together, you fall in love with the character and really feel as though you are in his world.
I would highly recommend this book for any art lover out there!

WHAT IS PEEP SHOW

The making of the original PEEP SHOW

Trying to describe what peep show is can get a little difficult, since its basically just my life.  It’s a world I created for inspiration and experience.  It’s a world I had little connection to though something more was drawing me in, at the time I didn’t know what it was. Doing things as I do, I jumped right into this world never looking back.  It’s been years of muses, love, passion, drama, death and chaos all the ingredients any artist could appreciate.  As time progressed I started seeing the connection, maybe it was being a girl in this world, being open and willing, and most of just being curious but I became a human confessional to some very dark topics.  The things  I was now part of, involved with and experiencing will last a life time.   

The PEEP SHOW series started in 2010, as a documentary experiment just coming out of photography school. The original series ended in 25 self portraits that became the picture book of my documentary. It was a story that became my personal life, and yet I hardly believe it.  PEEP SHOW was unveiled April 9, 2011  at Loft Beats, a resident art loft of the Pomona Arts Colony.  Due to the great success of my first solo art exhibit, I’ve now adopted PEEP SHOW as my ongoing ever evolving art series of my life.

Now with quite a bit of experience under my belt in both the art world and life, im ready to tackle PEEP SHOW 2.  This round im trying to branch out even more then I already have.  My goal is to incorporate fine art, photography, books, clothing and culture all into PEEP SHOW.  Being a 2 part series this round part will deal with the fine art of “how to be girl“, while the other being a book based on image “don’t judge a book by it’s cover.”  I’ve spent my time with the best and worst of people by societies standards and I’ve learned never to judge a book by its cover.  And thanks to all the girls in my life who have supported me though all these adventures well those are the paintings that are coming, they have a few lessons to teach the world.  We have a few more to learn together and as always im going to wrap it up in a pretty package and give you PEEP SHOW 2. It all goes hand in hand.

DIAMONDS ARE A GIRLS BEST FRIEND

If diamonds are a girls best friend then bullets must be her loves. When i agreed to PEEP SHOW 2 in my head it all sounded like a good idea. What girl wouldn't wan to fall into a world surrounded by glitter and flowers?  Well the reality is i live in a mans world.  For the last 7 years i've been the only female in any shop i worked at.  The day to day shop girl is who most of you know. However secretly i do my dishes in ridiculous high heels, flowers in my hair and pretending im wonder woman.  And even past those 2 sides of me there is another side that most will never see.  Im definitely not your average girl but i have more life experience then most girls could ever dream of. 


So here is my lesson on HOW TO BE A GIRL...
If you listen more then you speak, watch as much as you do, be willing more then reluctant and be
able to find the good in the bad you will make it in this world as a girl! And you will go far i promise!

A girl who listens more then she speaks will have all the answers to her problems.  She will have hundreds of stories and millions of secrets.  She will know the in's n out's of the streets, books, cultures and styles.  She will know to much for her own good, and yet wont say a word. She will be wise beyond her years, but young at heart.

A girl who watches as much as she does will know how to do anything in the world.  She will learn from others mistakes, and perfect her own. She will be one step ahead of the world.

A girl who is willing rather then reluctant will keep an open mind, will not judge and in the end will be true to her word for actually trying.  Be warned you will get hurt, you will add a few notches to your lipstick case but the experience is more then most can say.

A girl who can find the good in the bad sees the world in a different light. She doesn't judge a book by the cover, she reads the pages.  She will take her life experience and see it as a positive.  She will make a difference in the world because to her different is not scary its normal.

Not that long ago someone asked me what love was to me...
I answered what was in my heart, to best of my knowledge and experience. 
The next day this painting came to life. 
Love something that most are scared of, love something that will hurt you, and love something you know is wrong because the lesson you learn from that is what will make you love yourself and you can not truly love anything til you love yourself.

SPRINKLES OF CONFIDENCE

<3 Things have been quiet over here, crickets chirping, doors squeaking, but I've been painting!
Which means its time for updates and to get this project going!  And for all of you to meet these amazing girls that make up my world. On my blog im letting the girls give their interpretations of being a girl, the final art show will be my interpretation.

HOW TO BE A GIRL...
Meet Miss Sprinkles Bravo she is my work in progress of "SPRINKLES OF CONFIDENCE"   We met her a few months back via facebook when she answered a casting call for peep show.  Im pretty sure it was love at first sight with the pink hair.  If you know me at all anything pink i own it, i love it, i paint it.  So it was no surprise that she showed up first on the list for this project.

So as i've been painting her i asked her if she could teach girls one lesson what would it be...
"Complete confidence! Not conceded, not arrogant or cocky, just be proud of who you are. Your heritage, facial features, flaws. Learn how to work what you have. Nobodys perfect but perfection is boring! It's ok to be a little weird. Everything great happends in the world when you love yourself first!
You only have one life on this lil rock planet so be the best most awesome girl you can possibly be! xoxo"

I truly cant wait for the day i get to tattoo this girl. With this much inspiration being sent to me through cell phones and lap tops i can only imagine the masterpiece in real life!
